Extracts 6 & 7 - six feet

Extracts 6 & 7 - six feet

This collection speaks to anonymity and disconnection, and enforced separation. Although these themes are familiar to many in 2020, this topic was well explored by the existential Italian sculptor, Alberto Giacometti in the mid 20th century.

This sculptural art piece was created by Rowley in his studio at Quixotica. The figures were hand carved from local clay, and then underwent a series of firings to give them their distinctive colourings and surface appearance. After the firings were complete, the forms were wrapped in wire and attached to their metal base, and fired again with a distinctive glaze applied.

Equally as important as the figures, are their shadows, contrasted on the “danger zone” yellow backing board.

Please note that this piece is part of Rowley’s current exhibition, “Extracts”, at the Noosa Regional Gallery. It will be available for collection or delivery after the end of the exhibition on November 7, 2020.

Dimensions: 33 cm wide x 18 cm deep x 50 cm high
