Shino flower pail 3

Shino flower pail 3

$475.00Price

These flower pails were wheel thrown by Rowley from stoneware clay in his studio at Quixotica. Each form was then carefully hand cut to create the pail shape, and handles were added. Then they were bisque fired and glazed with a Shino style glaze.

Shino ware is Japanese pottery, usually stoneware, originally from Mino Province, in present-day Gifu Prefecture, Japan. It emerged in the 16th century, and its use is now widespread, both in Japan and internationally. It is identified by thick white glazes, red scorch marks, and a texture of small holes.

After glazing, the pails were then wood fired over several days and nights in one of the anagama kilns at Quixotica.

The resulting pails have impactful glaze and fire markings, making them  beautiful vessels for flowers, long stems and delicate branches.

Please note that this piece is part of Rowley’s current exhibition, “Extracts”, at the Noosa Regional Gallery. It will be available for collection or delivery after the end of the exhibition on November 7, 2020.
