WOOD FIRING WORKSHOPS
Rowley is well known in the Australian and international ceramic communities as an experienced wood firer. Quixotica has three wood fired kilns, and firings happen regularly throughout the year. If you would like to learn about the wood firing process or are interested to take part in a firing with your own ceramic work included, one of these options may be right for you.
WOOD FIRED KILN SHARES
New program for 2020 to be confirmed ... To keep updated about upcoming workshops at Quixotica, follow us on social media or join our email mailing list by clicking here
This program allows ceramic artists to experience a wood firing and/ or to have some of their work wood fired at Quixotica.
There are two ways you can participate:
Wood firing - Non participatory share - $295 per person – limited spaces available
Ceramic artists bring up to 6 bisqued stoneware pieces of medium size (up to 25 cm high/ wide) for firing in the kiln. Pieces will be evenly distributed throughout the kiln (2 x front, 2 x middle, 2 x back).
The artists glaze their work at Quixotica’s studio, at a mutually agreed time, with glaze supplied for the artists’ application at Quixotica. The work will then be loaded and fired in the wood kiln by the team at Quixotica. The artists return to collect their work at the kiln opening.
Wood firing - Participatory share - $195 – limited to four participants
Ceramic artists bring up to 6 bisqued and glazed stoneware pieces of medium size (up to 25 cm high/ wide) for firing in the wood kiln. Pieces will be evenly distributed throughout the kiln (2 x front, 2 x middle, 2 x back)
The artists will then assist in the loading of the kiln, at times agreed with each participating artist. After the kiln is loaded, firing usually commences on a Friday, with each participating artist attending one or two six hour firing shifts on Fri/ Sat / Sun (as agreed between artists and Rowley), accompanied and guided by Rowley or an experienced member of the firing team.
The artists then return to collect their work at the kiln opening on the afternoon of the following Saturday at Quixotica.
