Looking for something new in your ceramics practise? Raku firing creates dramatic surface effects and is a much quicker process than most other firing methods. Your work is removed from the kiln whilst red hot and is then placed in containers of combustible materials, providing unique effects on your ceramic work.
This workshop will provide you with inside knowledge on raku firing techniques. Learn how to blend your own clay, throw or hand build a simple clay vessel and then fire it in a raku kiln, all in one day. Each participant will also receive a tea bowl to decorate, fire and take home. The workshop is suitable for anyone from beginners to experienced ceramic artists, looking to add a new skill and knowledge to their repertoire.
Rowley’s workshop style is welcoming and friendly, informative and relaxed, focussed and rewarding. Join us for a fun, interesting workshop to learn the art of raku firing in the beautiful environs of Quixotica.

FEEDBACK from students at Rowley's recent Raku workshops

Thank you so much for a very informative and enjoyable Raku workshop yesterday at your beautiful Quixotica Art Space. I really appreciated learning about the history of Raku, the glazes and your firing techniques. I am thrilled with the glazes on my bowls.

I thoroughly enjoyed the day. I love the setting and it was great to hang out with like minded people. It flowed smoothly. I relate to Rowley’s relaxed style. I'm interested in being involved in more raku and wood firings. Really looking forward to the next one!

The workshop was very well structured and the day had a nice flow. It was very educational, I enjoyed that Rowley emphasized the historical and cultural significance of Raku Firing. I left feeling very excited to explore alternative firing methods.

I really enjoyed the class - Rowley is obviously very knowledgeable and an engaging teacher. I learnt a lot. I was particularly inspired to start using local clay and to be "true to your making". The grounds and facilities are lovely. It was nice to have access to tea - I've never been to a workshop that provided morning tea before but it was appreciated.
